We have another wonderful story of community impact to share, one that truly highlights the power of practical kindness. Here at TGR, we recently stepped in to help a lovely family who was struggling to manage life’s challenges after their vital washing machine failed.
This family was already under immense pressure. The dad has been dealing with the life-altering reality of a broken back, which abruptly ended his ability to perform his labour-intensive job and plunged their income into uncertainty. Concurrently, the mom is navigating her own complex medical journey, undergoing ongoing tests to establish the cause of her mobility issues, all while diligently caring for their energetic 23-month-old child.
They had just moved into a new flat, but with the mom unable to work and the dad becoming her primary carer, their income was extremely limited. They needed funds for essentials like furnishings and suitable flooring (which Occupational Therapy is helping them address due to the health risks of the existing concrete floor).
Then, the domestic crisis hit: their existing washing machine stopped heating the water and had other serious faults. Imagine trying to maintain basic hygiene for a toddler without the ability to run a proper, hot wash, all while you or your partner are severely physically restricted. It was an impossible burden.
Thanks to your incredible support, TGR was able to act fast! We quickly arranged for the necessary support, including the specific Hoover washing machine, and ensured it came with professional installation. This detail was critical, as the dad’s broken back and the mom’s mobility issues meant they could not handle the heavy lifting themselves.
We also want to give a massive thank you to Borshch in Dudley. They have helped TGR immensely by agreeing to sell us brand new, essential white goods at a significantly reduced cost, ensuring that your donations go further and help more families.
This new machine has brought so much more than clean laundry; it’s restored a sense of normality and dignity. It’s allowed the mom to conserve her energy for healing and childcare, and it’s given the dad one less major worry as he focuses on his challenging recovery.
